The UK ETA (Electronic Travel Authorisation) is a digital pre-travel clearance for visa-exempt short visits. From early 2025, most visa-free nationals need an approved ETA before flying, short study, business visits, or qualifying transit.
Who needs it
Short-stay travellers from visa-exempt places (including many Taiwan passport holders under published rules). Long study/work still needs the correct visa instead.
Tips
- Apply only via official UK government channels
- Use a passport-matching photo and pay the stated fee
- ETA is not a visa and does not guarantee admission
Confirm current nationality rollout dates on GOV.UK before you book.
